PAF Safety Coordinator Spotlight: Kisha King

Kisha King was first introduced to the Progressive Agriculture Foundation (PAF) Safety Day program in 2023 during a 4-H state staff meeting. Since then, the program has quickly become a meaningful and anticipated event in the Selma, Alabama community. “Protecting our youth and their families requires a collaborative effort,” Kisha notes. “Our community partners, parents, and schools now look forward to our annual Safety Day.”

Recognizing the limited resources often available in rural areas, Kisha emphasizes that the partnership with PAF has been instrumental in expanding outreach. “The support from PAF allows us to reach more children,” she explains. “Their resources—including take-home bags and curriculum—are invaluable.”

Kisha is clear that Safety Day is not meant to be a solo endeavor. “The program thrives when communities, businesses, and schools come together,” she says. “This kind of collaboration opens the door to more funding, expertise, and local support.”

What Kisha finds most rewarding about working with PAF is the opportunity to make a tangible difference. The program empowers children to learn and practice hands-on safety skills, and it provides coordinators with everything needed to ensure a successful event, from curriculum and insurance to thank-you note templates and code of conduct forms. She adds that the curriculum aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES), as both focus on youth development, community education, practical solutions, and impactful experiences.

To others considering a partnership with PAF, Kisha offers heartfelt encouragement: “Investing in the safety and future of our communities is essential. With the tools and support PAF provides, I feel better equipped to educate our youth about safety—both on the farm and at home.”
